Honorary Mayors Race Details
-
Dear Members,
We are SO excited to tell you about something we have been working on for quite a bit! Everyone is familiar with how the Honorary Mayor’s race is run…..Well, here are a few things we hear from members each year regarding the race-
“I would love to run but I don’t have the TIME to coordinate all those events”
“No way….I am not an event planner and am not going to start now”
“I feel bad but my business can’t support all of the candidates bc it’s just too much”
“There are so many mayor events going on it’s almost impossible to get out and participate the way I’d like to”
“The race is just TOO much work…I don’t have the time”
We have taken your feedback and put a lot of thought into it. Of course we still need the title of Honorary Mayor of SouthShore, but maybe we should go about it a little different!
This year we have decided to try things a new way…we are taking the TIME CONSUMING parts out of the equation and hopefully that will enable more candidates to run and more charities to benefit! How is this possible you ask? I’m getting there……
We are first putting a PLEA out (this is the PLEA) to all members to donate either goods/services at a minimum of $100 level going all the way up to cruises, beach getaway, fishing trip, vehicle (hey, we can try)….we will gather these items starting TODAY and will be done with this part by October 30th. In the meantime, we will start asking anyone who wants to “run for Mayor” to select their 501C3 Charity (must be a non profit within the chamber) and turn their names in.
Starting November 1st, all candidates will be announced and will start selling raffle tickets at $20 a pop! They will sell tickets for a little over a month – when they start selling the tickets , YOU will know exactly what the prizes are. They will be bundled and the value will be incredible! We will draw for the winners just a few weeks before Christmas (timing is everything)! We will not disclose which candidate sold the MOST tickets until our annual banquet in January- at which time, the new Honorary Mayor will be “crowned”!
All the funds from the ticket sales will be split down the middle…same as always. The charity will get 50% and the chamber will get 50%.
We are confident this will make it less stressful on the candidates and it will make it easier to support the candidates as well. The donated prizes will also be coming from CHAMBER MEMBERS ONLY as well as the charities selected will be CHAMBER MEMBERS so it’s a WIN WIN for the SouthShore Chamber and community! It’s another reason to WORK, LIVE AND PLAY in SouthShore!
If you are a business and you would like to donate (this officially makes you a sponsor of the entire event)- you will need to donate a minimum of $100 value prize…. Not a “discount or coupon” – so nothing that someone has to purchase in order to redeem the credit…. If your business doesn’t offer anything like this but you want to be a sponsor, you can SHOP SOUTHSHORE CHAMBER membership and purchase a gift card from another member- you will still get credit as the sponsor/donor.
If this is confusing to you but you know you would like to be involved, please call us TODAY and we will walk you through it. It’s all about making it easier on you……so we promise to do that!
We predict MORE CANDIDATES, MORE BUSINESSES INVOLVED THAN EVER BEFORE and just an all -around positive experience for our chamber!
We hope to hear from you soon!
Thanks so much!
