About Us
The CATE Foundation was formed on October 30, 2017 after several like-minded individuals got together to discuss the Opioid Crisis and how it was affecting their family and the community in general. Several of the Board members have personal experiences regarding the devastation that opioid use inflicts on the user and their loved ones. Opioid overdoses are rising dramatically year after year since 2010 and this is a direct result of the Pharmaceutical industries misleading statements of the safety of this class of drugs. The years in which Florida was known as a “pill-mill” state also contributed to the crisis. This crisis affects the entire community socially, economically and physically.
CATE’s mission is:
• Educating the community about the scientific nature of addiction
• Providing educational & treatment resources for those who are in recovery
• Empowering those in recovery to be a better community member
• Helping conquer the stigma of addiction
CATE will start by having monthly forums discussing ways the community can help combat this horrific epidemic. Speakers will include various members of the board and professionals in the treatment and recovery sector. Each meeting will have an educational portion teaching the community why the Opioid Crisis is so harmful and why it is happening. Starting in January, after each meeting, a fundraiser event will start with a vendor/business showcase, a Quarter Auction and a Silent Auction to raise funds to go towards opening an outpatient resource center in the South Shore community.Images
